men can be savvy and better shoppers too

May 16th, 2008

With the current super internet technology, you can expect shoppers to be more savvy and choosy when it comes to shopping - offline and online. I often hear ladies complaining that their boyfriends or husbands are hopeless in picking the right gifts for them. I’m not being biased but seriously, there is no excuse for men not to know how to buy gifts for their girlfriends or wives if they have an internet connection at home or in the office. the artisans and creatives are thriving

May 15th, 2008

The retail industry will continue to stay resilient with the current economic crisis in various sectors in the US and many affecting countries. This may be the time where people stay conscious over new franchise opportunity or business ventures. But as far as the creative and artisan world is concerned, there is a rise in budding artists and designers added everyday.

It’s inspiring and refreshing to behold bold designs and unique creations by indie designers. The breath of newness always excites the trendy shopaholics and stylish fashionistas of all ages, just like this Cattails pendant created by Alisha Louise. Bold colors and allusion to vintage art and style plus her current romantic Art Deco and Nouveau patterns are signature to her works. Simple, elegant, artistic with a hint of individuality for every one who likes a little artistic flair in her jewelry wardrobe.

May 15th, 2008

It’s the reality of life that most fashion clothing retailers use slim, tall, attractive and superfit looking models in their advertisement shoots especially for swimwear or bathing suit. But in reality, how many women have cellulite free, well-tanned, slender body with long limbs and close to perfect features? As you may know, even celebrities have cellulite too!

my new slate jersey and bastiste dress

May 14th, 2008

jersey.jpg

jerseydress.jpg Last trip in Singapore was a short but nice one cos I got to spend time with mom on Mother’s Day and did a little (just a little) shopping. I tried on a few items in MaxStudio.com and finally settled for this slate jersey and bastiste dress. Honestly, this dress didn’t appeal to me when I first saw it one month ago. It seemed a little ‘plain’ to me at that time but somehow, it looked better when it was worn, exuding that girlish charm:) It felt so comfortable as it was made of 100% soft quality superfine cotton. Other than a lightweight feel, it felt easy, effortless, casual and relaxed. I believe it will be one of those girlish dresses that I’ll wear for those weekend and casual outings. Great with leather sandals, ballerina shoes or mary janes.

more and more credit card offers

May 14th, 2008

My husband has been complaining about the annual fees on his credit card. I can’t blame him for that since more and more banks are offering no annual fees for credit card these days. In fact, credit card offers are very attractive with promotions that are sometimes hard to resist! Like it or not, material cravings can be more powerful than the will of the mind since we are all human nature easily enticed by what we see and experience every day.

With more people being more technologically advanced, it is becoming easier to apply online for credit cards and you can even shop for the card that offers you the best attractions and features including rewards credit card and no annual fee credit card. Whatever you do, don’t over indulge if you can’t afford to or you may be facing credit card debts in no time.

eco brown paper handbag for the eco-fashionista

May 13th, 2008

brownpaper.jpg Here’s one more cool and extragavant find for the eco shopper who doesn’t mind splurging in the name of going green. This may be one luxurious brown paper handbag I have ever seen. Though I was raising eyebrows on the price (175 GBP) at first glance at bouf.com. Giles Miller is known as the ‘cardboard king’ and his Brown Paper Handbag is a stylish yet eco-considerate product. Handmade from sustainably sourced corrugated cardboard, there is a leather strap fastened by chrome buckles.

my cotton silk voile swingy shirt from MaxStudio

May 12th, 2008

Finally, I managed to collect my purchases from MaxStudio.com from Singapore. If you are a fan of MaxStudio and don’t need to buy that beautiful top or dress you saw desperately, why not wait for the item to be listed on sale or super sale? Well, you may face the risk of not buying it at the size you want but then again, you can save more than 50% for that risk - that’s if you are not desperate to get that item, of course. I have learnt this from a futures broker friend and I had saved more than $200 on supersale and sale items from MaxStudio. Of all the four items I bought, this had to be my favourite - the cotton silk voile swingy shirt - was $168 but I got it for only $68. The material is beautiful, soft, comfy, very lightweight and absolutely girlish :)

life changing story of an artisan

May 12th, 2008

Whenever I read stories of young people getting into trouble with the law at a young age, I feel sad for them and their parents. I believe there are more patients found in drug rehab as social problems continue to be on the rise. Recently, I was encouraged to hear about a life changing story of a young man who soared in his creative career after going through a successful treatment journey. He’s now designing handmade messenger bags to be sold in flea markets and artisan stores. Shoppers love and admire his originality and creative use of paints, colours, fabric and odd materials especially those he picked up from the recycled stations. I do hope that he can launch his handmade bags online soon so that more shoppers can admire his artistic work and be inspired by his creative sense of style. It’s a shame that I can’t find any photo of his works but hopefully he explores the online technology soon.

One of his works resembles this handpainted Alexandra Cassaniti canvas bag except that you won’t be splurging $330 for his.

Wishing all mommies a blessed mother’s day

May 11th, 2008

To all the lovely mommies who never fails to be there for your children, husbands, family and friends:

“A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials heavy and sudden, fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends who rejoice with us in our sunshine desert us; when trouble thickens around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts.”  ~author unknown

Wishing all mommies of this blog a Very Blessed Mother’s Day! Keep loving and shining!

vote for your fabric

May 9th, 2008

True enough, there are many ways to launch and promote products online. I was rather impressed by Design Diva when it first launchedits Vote up count down feature. What’s cool about it is when you vote for a particular fabric, the count down starts and you can then purchase it at a cheaper price. With so many fabrics on the online store, the next fabric will be up on count down mode when the previous one is sold. I thought that was a simple yet innovative way to promote the store’s luxury and interior fabric while creating an interest among online shoppers!
