insights on voice over talents

We were shopping for some good DVDs for Clayton and the home and after an hour in the video shop, we ended up with more children’s DVDs than anything else. While I don’t have much time for movies and DVD shows these days, I probably spend more time watching short commercials and snippets of shows. What I really find intriguing is the talented voice over in those shows and commercials. I’m impressed with how different tone of voice can relate a message whether it’s to induce fear, stir up excitement, create a lively ambience or a gentle voice to soothe and reassure.

This is what Don Capone does. Being a professional voice over talent, he can present a hard sell or soft sell tone in his voice. His article on voice over talent is a good read that explains the definition of these various terms used among the production houses, at least now, I can understand what exactly is voice overs, voice narration and the job nature of voiceover artists. According to Don, the internet has made it easy for voice over talents to send their recordings to Hollywood studios and other production houses who may be scouting for the ideal talents for a movie, commercial or documentary. Basically, if you have what it takes by expressing yourself through your voice, there is a big job market out there for voice over talents – what an insight. I never thought much about the voices behind a radio or TV commercial or a movie trailer but now I do.
