my marc by marc jacobs handbag

I told you I was in a shopping splurge during this last trip in Singapore. I needed some personal space it was a little shopping before heading down for a couple of meetings yesterday. Lo and behold, Marc by Marc Jacobs was having a 50% sale – woohoo!

I picked up a capri pants and a casual jacket going at 50% sale and standing at the cashier counter, a nice looking leather bag caught my eyes! It was a Teri Tote in the softest calf leather and I loved the shape and elegance of it. It was disappointing that the bag was not on sale as it was a new arrival. With lots of space in the 2 patch pockets at the front and 2 other interior pockets, this bag is versatile and stylish.

I came back and did an online search and found it in shopbop.com and was I shocked to notice a huge price difference (S$200), if only I do my research first! Even with S$80 UPS shipping included, I could still save some money for a nice meal in a restaurant. This goes to show that US online stores are cool places to shop and compare prices. I have to be more savvy next time :) I would have gone for the red if I bought it at Shopbop.com too.

exotic bangkok

Three years ago, we visited Bangkok before the birth of Clayton and had a great time there. We had heard so much about the city from friends and was glad that we finally made it there to experience the culture and city life for ourselves. If you ask me, the thing that left me the most memories were the shopping and dining scene… they were simply marvelous! Bangkok is known for its delicious exotic cuisine and the flea market, Cha Tu Chat. I was so glad that I had a chance to visit before Clayton’s arrival as there was no room for strollers in this busy weekend market!

Before the trip, we spoke to friends and found out all the best places to visit and dine. Jim Thompson house was another great place to spend the day… loved those Thai silk and apparel. After doing some research on the wide selection of Bangkok Hotels, we chose to stay in Novotel Siam Square, a nice hotel with delicious buffet breakfast and most importantly, it was accessible with the train station that was less than 5 minutes away. Apart from the traffic congestion and air pollution, Bangkok was truly a shopping and dining paradise and the locals were a friendly bunch, I must say.

DH is thinking of doing a kite surfing trip this November and I may just had another chance to satisfy my shopping passion. This time, we would be bringing Clayton so it will a new experience. So if you are planning for a trip to Asia, consider Bangkok… get some tips from Sidestep, a comprehensive search engine for travelers.

hot kitchen trends

For the ‘Queen of the House’, here are some current news of what is “hot” in the kitchen trends:

  • Stainless Steel – Right now stainless is extremely popular. Often brushed for a more metallic texture, this grey metal matches most of the current appliances and follows a modern theme. I simply prefer shower faucets with stainless steel finishes.
  • Oil Rubbed Bronze – This is very popular as it is more rustic or old style. Sometimes brushed to show flecks of the underlying bright copper/bronze (Delta’s “Venetian Bronze”). Often covered with a baked-on patina (ie, the oil-rubbed look) – beware harsh cleaners can damage the patina (and void the warranty)!
  • Brushed Nickel – A slightly different tone from stainless, and more often seen in the bathroom than kitchen (stainless being more popular to match appliances). This grey-brushed metal can have a slightly warmer look than stainless. It has been said that it can also show fingerprints a bit more than stainless.

fun with style and trends

We are living in the age of iPods and super internet technology and we can’t help but to accept that our children’s hobbies and interests have evolved and changed in this 21st century. Therefore, I’m glad that there is a safe site that can help to occupy busy growing girls who are learning about fashion and style faster than my time. Sometimes, these young teenage girls are more trendy and well-informed than me in the fashion scene and trends. I’m glad to hear about dress up games at Cartoon Doll Emporium, a fast growing hobby and recreation site with more than 800 hand drawn illustrations of dress up games and up to 25 million visitors to its site since the launch two years ago. With this attractive profile, I know it’s a must to check it out. I must say that I am thoroughly impressed with the dolls found on the site. The illustrations and graphics are realistic and visually appealing. You can tell by one look that the site is well developed which explains why it has attracted such a big audience.

These dress up games come in all sorts (celebrities, disney characters, anime, pets..etc) and I can guarantee you that they will keep your children real busy. After all, it’s better to engage them in such hobbies and interactive games than to have them stay out with ‘you-don’t-know-who’. Check it out yourself and I’m certain you will have some fun too… after all, we women like to fantasize trends and style.

Banana Republic in Malaysia and Singapore

Banana Republic is finally opened in Singapore and Malaysia! I first heard about the nice line of ladies’ clothing when I visited the US few years ago and I’m so glad they are finally here! You can find it in KLCC for the Malaysia outlet and for Singapore, it is located in Paragon, occupying two floors, one for men and the other for ladies.

I headed down to both boutiques to check out its range. All I must say is that I need to put on some weight before looking good in the silk dresses and tops. The prices fall in the mid to upper range, depending on fabrics and style. Though I haven’t found anything that suits me, I know it is one boutique I will visit often. At least, I manage to find a nice leather belt for my pants and jeans, after walking in and out all the designer boutiques who don’t have any nice belts this season.

Any fan of Banana Republic here?
