how we can help the environment

I pick up these tips at Skeeda which suggest how we can save energy and help the environment in our average household. Here is a list of things we can all start doing:

• Carry reusable and recyclable bags to minimize the use of plastic bags

• Turn lights, televisions and computers off when not in use.

• When possible, use a toaster oven instead of your conventional oven – it saves energy

• Turn off the water when you brush your teeth.

• Use baking soda and vinegar to clean instead of toxic commercial cleaners.

• Buy local produce, less energy is used to transport it to your store.

• Only run your dishwasher when it is full

• Re-evaluate your laundry. The average load uses 40 gallons of water. If it’s not dirty, don’t wash it!

• Avoid the dryer. Hang that load of laundry on the line to dry.

• Let your vegetables run free in your shopping cart, reduce the number of vegetable bags if they aren’t necessary.

• Walk or bike if it’s not too far. It’s good for your health as well!

• Compost your food scraps.
