my secret indulgence on cool cars

My dad had an influence on my love for fast and powerful cars. I was one of those kids who loved speed and wouldn’t yell or scream when the tyres started screeching on the corners. Dad changed a new car every few months to satisfy his thrill and passion for speedy automobiles – used or new.

This secret indulgence began when I was in my early twenties. Being a fan of powerful cars, I set my eyes on the Volkswagen Golf when I first saw it in an auto magazine. All I could say was, that was truly a significant car of its class. I didn’t think much about it since I wouldn’t be able to afford one at that time. With thoughts of advancing my education to the postgraduate level, I was saving hard for an overseas education.

It was not until years later that I finally got a chance to drive a Volkswagen Golf 1.6 after a friend left it to my care for a few months. It was like a dream come true – I always want to own a Volkswagen Golf! Even though it was a used Volkswagen Golf, the engine was impeccable and you could trust it for ultimate performance. It took me a short while to get used to the left signaling feature but that was a piece of cake. With the Golf, I had to be gentle with my accelerator as it was sensitive and a little more on it could cause the car to fly – it was scary! I wouldn’t care so much if it was my own car but it wasn’t, so I was extra careful with speed and control. The car drove smoothly and with its compact size, it was easy to whiz in and out of parking lots, especially for those parallel parking moments… it was a breeze.

I must admit that my interest has shifted from the Golf to the Beetle in the last couple of years and I don’t need to say why. The Volkswagen Beetle is all about art and design, its bubbly shape delights those who adore style and modernity. Since I am only allowed to buy used cars (DH will never agree on new ones), I can’t wait to catch up with some Volkswagen Dealers for any good buys when I move to down under. Besides the Merc A Class, the Volkswagen Beetle still stay tops for my preferred choice of cars. Being a sucker for style and design, I can foresee a Beetle in my garage, since the cute and bubbly shape complements my petite stature and casual outlook on life. I’ve already put this in my wish list, for now, it’s just waiting for that indulgence to be satisfied.
