my AmyKathryn handbag review: marigold leopard

That morning, I was greeting by a big package on the dining table. I opened up and DH was noticing that big smile on my face. It was a AmyKathryn bag that had just arrived for review - I was thrilled!

I had a confession to Amy Hall, the powerhouse designer behind the range of animal-friendly bags that became popular among celebrities. I wasn’t a big fan of leopard designs. So when I saw my Marigold Leopard, fabricated with leopard suede and animal friendly faux leather, I wasn’t sure how to carry this off. I’m a graphic designer so that helps to explore the creative side of me in trying out new styles and fashion taste. I decided to get adventurous especially after DH gave me a firm nod that I would look great with the bag. I gave it a ‘real’ trial by bringing it with me during my short weekend trip to Singapore.

As usual, I needed to pack all my necessities in the bag and I was surprised how Marigold Leopard could hold all my stuff without looking overly stuffed! I had my long TODs wallet, my passport and Clayton’s, cosmetic pouch, coin purse, two mobile phones (one for local use and the other to be used in Singapore), a credit card holder, facial tissue, small notepad, a trainer pants diaper for emergency, wet wipes - wow! Usually, all these will weigh my shoulders down, making them tired and painful after a while but with Marigold Leopard, I didn’t feel any discomforts and the straps sat nicely on my shoulders the whole time. The faux leather was light but firm enough to hold all my stuff without creating a weight at the middle of the bag. It held all my things nicely with lots of space for more! I preferred the short strap to the long one since I was petite in stature. Marigold Leopard was designed at a good size for today’s modern women who needed space for everything else to go inside her handbag! With the four studs at the bottom, the bag sat nicely on the floor or chair while looking smart and elegant.

And the colours - they were vibrant to look great with smart casual, denims and even formal business wear, if you are bold enough to challenge the conventional business dressing. When using Marigold Leopard, you should wear colours that complements - warm tones and neutral black are best. I must say that this is one of the best handbags for my weekend trips. I had used so many different bags for my trips and they were either too heavy before I put anything inside or I would be too tired after a half hour walk in the mall.

While I love the snap closure pocket on the outside of the bag, I find the four open ones a little shallow for anything else. For the most times, I was worried that anything inside the open pockets might slide out as the inner satin is smooth and silky. But I love the way Marigold Leopard held my things. Just one look and I could find anything I need without having to ruffle for items. The handbag was spacious enough for my cardigan and Clayton’s extra clothing!

So am I a leopard design convert? Not yet :P But only because designer Amy Hall uses the leopard suede in such a tasteful manner that makes it so stylish and artistic. I’m just not the conventional girl and that’s what AmyKathryn handbags stand out from the rest - they are designed with a difference. I must say that I’m in love with my Marigold Leopard. Other than a slight fabrication snip on the leopard suede on the back (perhaps because it’s a sample?), the handbag’s quality finish is signature of AmyKathryn creations.

great review! I sell amykathryn bags and have really been impressed with her line. My personal favorite is the thistle. The picture does not do the bag justice. The brown metallic is so classy looking and I love the red thistle. It is one hot bag! I actually don’t carry the Marigold but have been tempted to stock some as I like the look.

    thanks for sharing!

    Hello Leslee,
Since you sell the amy kathryn bags can you tell me where they are actually manufactured? USA perhaps? and if so where? Since all the adds I see about these bags state that they are “animal-eco friendly” it would be nice to see where they are actually made> they are so inexpensive it is almost too good to be really true.. Thanks

Hi Lisa~ They are made in China. Amy has a close friend here in the states and it is her family that runs the factory where there are 100 people or less working. Material for the bags are PU and thus PVC free. The custom printed fabric is made in limited amounts. Hope this helps
