are your children’s toys free from lead?
Just a while ago, I was reading a newsletter sent to me by Environmental Working Group who wrote about lead being used in makeup, particularly lipstick. For those of you who are not aware, lead is linked to health risks including learning and behavioural problems. According to Wikipedia, lead may cause “irreversible neurological damage as well as renal disease, cardiovascular effects, and reproductive toxicity”.
As parents, we should also be responsible for the toys we give to our children. Always check to ensure that there is no presence of lead in your children’s arts and crafts materials and clay modelling kits. Children being children, especially the younger ones, they tend to put anything in their mouths and if not careful, it can lead to toxicity and even death. If you are looking for safe children’s products – ceramic clays or modeling clays, check out the ones at American Art Clay Co., a leader in lead free glazes who is the major supplier to schools in the US. These craft materials can be purchased online and are great for both kids and adults alike. So next time, before buying any children’s toys or art and craft materials, make sure they are free from lead.
