vintage automobile and furniture art
Talk about creativity and you can expect craft designers and indie artists to think up of the most fabulous ideas. Who would have think that something can be created from vintage automobile fabrics? I mean, would you think that the fabric of your car seat can be recycled into a scarve, top, craftwork or even a bag?
Designer Kim White uses dead stock never-used textiles intended for use in American automobiles: cars, trucks and vans. Kim’s vintage fabrics are derived from an entire warehouse of automotive fabric, which may be the last existing stock anywhere in the US, and she is the sole owner of these amazing textiles.
The cool thing is that Kim White Handbag is tagged with the year and make of the fabric, so you know exactly what car your bag comes from. You can expect most of the fabrics to come from the car collection in the 70s or 80s.
In addition to her collection of vintage automotive textiles, Kim has also unearthed some of the most gorgeous vintage florals from decades past. These wonderful vintage florals were originally intended for use in furniture from the 50s through the 70s and you can expect the detail in these textiles to be original and beautiful. Those were the days where precised craftsmanship was well revered. Know what, don’t throw away your old curtains and couch fabrics from now on as they can be recycled in years to come!
So much of this cool concept of Kim’s, let’s have a look at her collection:
